With school starting back up and schedules filling as we ease toward the fall, frozen, ready-to-eat meals can be quick and easy favorites. If your family is a fan of frozen chicken nuggets or chicken tenders, though, be sure to give the label a careful look, as a popular brand is recalling products across the country because of possible contamination with a foreign object.

According to an August 16 press release from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Perdue Foods LLC received complaints from consumers about “metal wire embedded” in a product. In response, the company is recalling three frozen chicken products sold in retail locations and online nationwide:

  • “PERDUE Simply  Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” in 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages with a Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” on the back.
  • “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS” in 9-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages with a Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” on the back.
  • “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” in 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages with a Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” on the back.

The recalled products were produced on March 23, and all have the establishment number “P-33944” on the back of the packaging. You can see pictures of the labels here.

FSIS says anyone who has the recalled products in their freezer should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Perdue Consumer Care by calling 1-866-866-3703.

As of press time, no injuries or “adverse reactions” have been reported in connection with this recall, according to FSIS. However, this has been classified as a Class I recall, meaning consuming the recalled products could lead to serious health consequences or death.

What Each FDA Recall Classification Means
Class I Recall “A situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Class II Recall “A situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Class III Recall “A situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.”
