You might not always recognize the name brands of those snacks that are positioned to catch hungry eyes out shopping, but darn if stores like T.J. Maxx and Home Goods don’t sell some of the funnest novelty foods.

One such product has been recalled, according to a late-breaking alert the US Food and Drug Administration published on Thursday, October 3, 2024, when Hammond’s Candies announced they were recalling their Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones for the undeclared presence of milk.

The good news is that if you know you have a milk allergy, this snack is one you might be likely to avoid—however, the recall announcement says the company had received one report of a consumer experiencing an allergic reaction after consuming the chocolate waffle cone treats.

On their website, the company says their products are sold at “Target, Whole Foods, World Market, Safeway, King Soopers, T.J. Maxx, Sur La Table and Cracker Barrel,” as well as “many independently owned boutiques.” The brand also offers products on Amazon.

The FDA alert lists the states touched by the recall as the following: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Washington, D.C. (The company’s site also states that it sells products in Canada, England, Spain, Italy, Dubai, and other countries, but the FDA’s recall does not specify whether product sold in those territories is affected.)

Consumers who purchased the product in these states can check to see if their purchase is affected by this recall by checking for the following details:

  • Hammond’s Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones
  • UPC number: 6 91355 90513 5
  • Item number FC23212
  • Product codes LN0525453, LN0525453
  • Expiration 03/20/2025 and 05/20/2025

The FDA’s announcement suggests consumers can return their product to the place of purchase for a full refund or call Hammond’s Candies at 1-888-226-3999.

Denver-based Hammond’s Candies was founded in 1913 and became a household-name brand when Williams-Sonoma started selling their products in 1995. Today, Hammond’s products like the mini waffle cones, brittles, marshmallows, and hot beverage “stir sticks” are sold in the snack section or checkout line in popular supermarkets and lifestyle retail chains.
