The worst nightmare of many parents and caregivers is getting the news that their child has a serious illness, and more of us are making choices as consumers to protect our children from harmful substances.

That’s why you may want to be aware of an announcement the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made this afternoon about a product sold online via Amazon and some medical supply sites, according to our research. A September 19, 2024 recall alert from the FDA states that Montvale, NJ-based Dynarex Corporation is recalling 62 cases (containing 24 bottles each, or 1,488 bottles total) of Dynacare Baby Powder, which was distributed on March 11, 2024. It’s reported a routine FDA sampling “revealed that the finished products contained asbestos,” the alert says.

Asbestos is a mineral that’s regulated by the government to manage human exposure, especially among children, as it is known to have carcinogenic (cancer-causing) effects. The FDA notes “its health risks are well-documented.”

The product was reportedly shipped to the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, Washington, Wisconsin.

Identifying details for the recalled Dynarex baby powder are:

  • Dynacare Baby Powder 14-ounce bottles
  • Item Number 4875
  • Batch Number B 051
  • Expiration Date 12/28/2026 (found on the bottom of the bottle)

The FDA says there have been no illnesses or adverse events reported at the time of the recall publication but that the manufacturer has halted distribution of the product. They add that customers who purchased the product should discontinue use and return the product for a full refund. More details to submit a claim are available in the recall announcement linked above.
